Workers' Compensation — British Columbia

British Columbia workers' compensation is administered by WorkSafeBC. Claims correspondence is governed by the Workers Compensation Act and WorkSafeBC's Rehabilitation Services and Claims Manual (RSCM) policies.

Key Requirements

Acknowledgment

Worker must notify employer as soon as practicable. Employer must report to WorkSafeBC within 3 days of learning of the injury. WorkSafeBC uses prescribed forms for worker and employer reports.

Denial

WorkSafeBC must issue written decisions. Workers may request a review by the Review Division, and then appeal to the Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal (WCAT).

Mandated Forms

  • Worker's Report of Injury: Initial worker claim filing
  • Employer's Report of Injury: Due within 3 days
  • Physician's First Report: Attending physician reports to WorkSafeBC

Appeals

Review Division handles first-level reviews. WCAT handles second-level appeals. Written decisions with reasons are required at each stage.
